A New Beginning for Idkcaits

Hey you!

If you followed my posts on instagram or on here, then you would’ve noticed that I haven’t been active.

The thing is, a lot has changed for me over the past few years!

I feel that social media is a way of showcasing your hobbies and documenting different moments, trips and favourites in your life… and for that reason I’ve decided to change my content to suit my new hobbies and interests.

As some of you may know, I’m 17 and I’m currently in the middle of my A levels and in the midst of university applications and decisions.. and I’d like to use this platform to document this chapter in my life!

I have missed blogging, but I knew I needed to change what I post to something that was relevant to my life at the moment, or I just won't stick to it.

So here's a summary of my life right now and what I'd like to change!

I want to be a midwife. I have a huge passion for the inspiring care that midwives bring to women, and one day soon I'd like to become an advocate myself! I am currently in the middle of the application process and I think it's important that as aspiring midwives we speak about the experience, to show other women who may be considering this career path that it IS possible!

From my journey to Midwifery, I have discovered that I thoroughly enjoy helping other aspiring midwives with interview help and tips and tricks for the application process, and I'd like to use this platform to help people who are interested and document my experiences. I think this is really important for the future of midwifery. But I also want to document my journey on if I DON'T get a place this year, because I think it's important to be transparent.

However,  I still want to have the freedom to talk about other things (maybe my experience at uni or similar things?). So please don't assume this is just going to turn into a midwifery blog entirely. I just want to document and share my experiences of life as an A level student/aspiring midwife/uni student (hopefully)/ and generally a teenager! And my hope is that maybe I'll be able to help others from this:) I still love a good thought rant, beauty and travel.. so I'm sure that aspect will creep up!!

So if you've made it this far without clicking off (thank you!!), please let me know what you think about my new ideas!  I wish you all the best of luck in all your individual journeys. Stay tuned for a hopeful offer!! Pray for me!

You'll hear from me soon!

Caitlin :)

Product review: ABH Glow Kit Moon Child

What better way to restart your blog than a product review? Caitlin's back from her MIA period wow!
How was everyone's Christmas? Mine was sooo chilled out and I definitely enjoyed it! Even though Christmas is all about family and friends and being thankful, I HAVE to share some of my presents with the world;-) Dont worry I'm not sponsored (come on I have 3 followers why would I be sponsored) this is merely for fun and entirely my opinion - because as you will get to know soon, I have a sliiiight obsession to highlighters, and what's better than getting 6 highlighters in 1! (Anastasia Beverly Hills you won my heart with that creation, fab idea, I salute you)

Anyway, as you may have noticed (even though I'm slightly late with this trend) early this year, Anastasia Beverly Hills glow kits sent the whole world on a craze and it was near impossible to get your hands on one, in fact if they were food, I probably would've starved to death... I was always jealous of anyone who had one! They were sold out all the time and I thought that I'd be able to get one on my trip to New York(comment if you'd like a travel post:-)) but, unfortunately they were all sold out in Sephora.

All in all there are 5 glow kits (correct me if I'm wrong) and the Moon child palette in my opinion is the more editorial makeup product, with a range of blue and purple tones, they're not your typical everyday highlighters but they are the perfect mix between fantasy and reality. If you're looking to step out of your comfort zone, or take up editorial makeup it is definitely the one.

With thanks to my Second family who had taken a trip to Florida this year, I woke up Christmas morning to this hyped Anastasia Beverly Hills Moon child palette, with my name on shiny wrapping paper!

I have to admit, packaging is a big thing for myself, and the packaging on Anastasia Beverly Hills product never fails to look and feel luxury! The Moonchild palette has a duo chrome, rainbow effect on a lovely light blue colour and definitely doesn't make you feel bad about spending £39.

What the website says:

Magically-Metallic highlighters that offer a celestial skin finish. Layer shades of Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit, together or sweep them separately on face, eyes and body for a kaleidoscopic, shimmering effect. Ideal for use with Brush #23. For a brightly amplified glow, apply with a damp makeup brush or sponge.

I couldn't agree more, who doesn't want to look magic? Ummm me please! But how wearable are these colours...

As you can see, each shade has its own colour to wow you with, but how does the public react to someone with purple cheeks? Personally, I wore the shade 'star' on Boxing Day, which appears to be a silver, metallic shade. Let me tell you, I wore that shade with complete confidence! That is until my dad called me pale and my Nan rubbed at my nose to remove the 'grey mark'...
Let me warn you to not go overboard on these shades, you may get your nose rubbed.

Now please don't take this as me dissing the palette,  because I'm definitely not, I love it very much and still continue to use it, however it can look 'childish' or a bit weird if you don't take care!

The shades from left to right: blue ice, star, purple horseshoe, pink heart, lucky clover, blue moon

Review of the shades

Blue ice-

What Anastasia says:  Diamond white with an icy blue reflect
What Caitlin says: This is one of my favourite shades from the palette, as it can look natural and      wearable while still appearing unique, it doesn't look chalky and has that wet sheen that I love, 8/10 from me!

Star-

What Anastasia says: A moonstone fusion of mint, platinum and silver reflect
What Caitlin says: After my bad experience with this shade, I've not really used it, however i imagine it would be lovely for an editorial look, or maybe a night out! Its formula is slightly more chalky than the others and I found that it doesn't last as long.

Purple horseshoe-

What Anastasia says: A glittering lavender with an arctic blue reflect
What Caitlin says:  This is definitely one the colours that makes this palette truly standout or, however I've not yet used it on my cheekbones! I reached for this while doing a halo eye look, and I swiped it in the centre of my lid, and I have to say I fell in love!

Pink heart-

What Anastasia says:  Pearl white with a pink opal reflect
What Caitlin says: Personally, this is my favourite shade in the palette and the most wearable, it's more like other highlighters in my opinion and gives a lovely pink sheen, definitely my most used!

Lucky clover-

What Anastasia says:  A shamrock-infused gold with canary yellow diamond reflect
What Caitlin says:  I'm not a huge fan of the emerald colours, however I have to say this is a stunning highlighter if it compliments your skin tone, even though I haven't used it very much I'd definitely reach for it in the future.

Blue moon-

What Anastasia says: Frozen blue with a silver reflect
What Caitlin says: Again like purple horseshoe, this shade is definitely a bold one, if you like blue ice and are looking for something more opaque this is the on! I've also used this in a halo eye look and  adored it.

This palette is a great confidence booster, and definitely represents a daring choice. If you're looking for something to slowly take you out of your comfort zone, this breathtaking celestial palette is worth every penny!

Top 6 Real Techniques brushes

Real techniques are one of my favourite brands of drugstore makeup brushes, and these are just a few of the brushes I use everyday! Just in case you didn't know, Real techniques were designed by professional makeup artists Sam + Nic Chapman and they combine high-tech materials (they're al synthetic) with innovative design to make creating you're makeup look easier than ever! The color-coded system corresponds to the key steps of makeup application so you can create a flawless base, enchanced eyes and the perfect finish and look pixel perfect. The collection is available in Boots and Superdrug and if you're in the states then I'm not entirely sure but you can get them online! if you want to know more then just go to realtechniques.com

Unfortunately, I don't own any of the Bold Metals collection, but i'm sure they're amazing! Please excuse how dirty my brushes are haha!
so here are my top 6-

1. Duo-fiber face brush

Personally, i'm not a big fan of blush, but this brush is super fluffy and soft and because it doesn't pick up too much product, it's perfect for me! Also you could use it for so many things, like bronzer or powder. This brush is available in the Nic's picks set!

2. Cheek brush

Even though it's called the cheek brush, I use this brush for foundation, because it is soo dense and it lightly buffs everything into place and creates a flawless but light finish! Definitely in with my favourites! This is also available in the Nic's picks set!

3. Deluxe crease brush

When it comes to early mornings, I don't really bother with eyeshadow,  but if I do, I chuck on some Clinique chubby stick or a Maybelline colour tattoo, and blend it with this brush and it instantly looks like I've tried! This brush has saved me so many times and it definitely deserved a mention! I think I got this brush in the Starter kit!

4. Angled shadow brush

Also from the Nic's picks set, this brush is fantastic and blending and building eyeshadow in the crease because it fits perfectly! it takes time to get it perfect but it honestly does the job perfectly!

5. Accent brush

This brush is great for creating a more dramatic eye, as it can be used to go over eyeliner, or create more definition in the crease. It's also great for applying eyeshadow on the lower lashline as it's small and dense! This is from the Starter kit aswell!

6. Contour brush

Last but certainly not least is the contour brush. This was one of the first brushes I got for this brand, in the Core collection set, and honestly I can say it's one of my favourites! It's sooo soft and it contours perfectly because it fit right into the hollows of your cheeks with the dome shape. And it can be used for so much, for example, blending concealer, applying blush, and loads more!

I love you<3

Whats in my bag?

So I apologise that this isn't a video, but I'm not quite ready for the whole Youtube thing yet! Anyway, the other night, I slept over my best friends house (shoutout to Nia if you're reading even though you're probably not), and when I got home, I was thinking of what to post next and as I was emptying my handbag I had a brainstorm and thought.. 'why not show you what I carry around?'.
If you're anything like me and you're nosy, then i'm sure you'll enjoy this post!;-)

My bag is from Very.com and it was around £25 but I'm not entirely sure (sorry!!) It's quite small, but you can fit quite a lot in there!:-)

So clearly i'm not the most organised when it comes to my handbag.. but here I go...

Here are a few random bits, like the dust bag for my dance shoes, that I was too lazy too take out! That is the main reason that's in there! Then I've got a random leaflet that this lovely lady gave me in a French vintage shop (this was ages ago, which shows how rarely I clean out this bag). And of course a Mcdonalds Monopoly sticker.. no comment there.

Then theres some essentials like a garnier invisicool deodorant, which wouldn't usually be in there, but is at the moment because of the sleepover... Of course I carry my huge makeup bag with me! (comment if you'd like and updated post of whats in there) and my holy grail lip balm -  Burts Bees. I can guarantee that if you were to ever see me in person, i'd be either wearing, or carrying this lip balm! And then of course I have a perfume just to be prepared!

So usually my beats pill isn't in here, but it just goes too show how much you can actually fit in this bag! Ignore the extremely dirty Clinique mirror... and all my keyrings!

As you can see, i'm a slight germophobe and always carry a hand sanitizer.. this particular one is from Bath and body works and its called 'Honolulu sun'. Then I've got my favourite La Roche-Posay Effaclar do+, which can I add is the BEST imperfections cream for me! The watch is a Michael Kors chronograph rose gold MK-5314 which retails for about £160-£250. And a pen which always comes in handy!

I found a few random beauty bits, floating at the bottom of my bag so i'll list them!
  • Mac lustre lipstick in plumful
  • Mac lipliner in half red
  • Eos Lip balm in strawberry sorbet and summer fruits
so thanks for  reading, and I hope you enjoyed that little insight on whats usually in my bag! comment below what you'd like to see next

I love you <3

benefit roller lash | product review

This to me, may be the best thing since sliced bread! Obviously you've heard about benefits newest addition - Roller Lash. This mascara is advertised to curl, and volumise your lashes without the need of eyelash curlers, so I obviously had to see what all the fuss was about!!

The legendary ELLE magazine, came up with the amazing idea to debut the mascara in they're issue, so instantly I rushed to my nearest Tesco and grabbed it before it dissapeared!;-)

I personally am a HUGE fan of minis as they are super cute and are great for your handbag and are 100% practical for travelling.. even if I don't do too much of it! Anyway, as soon as I got home I stripped off my makeup and wacked on some of this new so called amazing new mascara... and I was drawn too it straight away!!

On the packaging, it states that it is a 'hook n roll' brush with a patent-pending hook design which positions catches, lifts and curls... which basically means there are tiny hooks on some bristles which catch every lash whether they are small or big, also, the curved edge of the brush creates length and volume. because the brush is quite small, you can use it on your bottom lashes as there is a shorter side of the brush for this! It claims that its also a 12-hour lasting formulation.

97% said it visibly lifted lashes
87% said it gives long-lasting curl
94% said eyes look more wide open
(in the survey of 31 women after 4 weeks)

Now for my opinion, I think that this mascara does exactly what it says! my lashes are blonde and are basically non existing without mascara.. and i'm terrible at getting nice lashes, but this mascara has honestly made a difference as it opens up my tiny eyes, and the best thing? NO more eyelash curlers for me!! the formulation is quite similar to 'They're Real' which is also by Benefit, but I noticed how it was reasonably thinner.. and also not as volumising as that isn't the purpose for Roller Lash! if you're looking for an eye-opening, lengthening mascara, then this is one for you!

tip- after a thin coat of Roller Lash, you can apply a thin coat of They're Real, for that extra effect!

I love you,

Caitlin

Hello world | Q&a

Recently, a few friends have been nagging me to start a blog, and I never listened. I didn't listen because I thought that no one would read it and it would just be a complete fail. But then I decided that if I never tried, I`d never know right?
So here I am, bringing idkcaits to life(that sounded A LOT better in my head).
I had no idea how to start a blog, in fact, I must have thought about it forever! but then I finally decided, that because you clearly know nothing about me, I`d ask my lovely Instagram followers at idkcaits_, to chip in and ask me some questions!
So get ready to learn some things that you probably don't care about
here it goes:

1. Who`s your favourite youtuber?
 - This is actually so hard, because I practically live on Youtube.. Probably TheSacconeJolys, Zoella and Tanya Burr (more than one.. Oops)

2. What`s your favourite drugstore makeup brand?
- If you count what I have more of.. it would probably be Rimmel, although I do love a good quality MUA product!

3. If you could wish for one thing, what would it be?
-I`d wish for people to read this blog;)

4. What`s your holy grail makeup product?
- My famous Rimmel glam eyes black liquid eyeliner all the way!

5. What is your one item of clothing I couldn't live without?
- My black suede Chelsea boots (because I practically live in those too!)

6. Whats your favourite yankee candle?
- Honestly I don't have a favourite, because I switch them all the time, although at the moment its Blissful autumn.

7. Why did you decide to start a blog?
- Long story short, I basically loved all of my instagram followers, and I adored showing them what I loved, I got a new laptop, and thought 'hey, why not start a blog?' and here I am!

8. Fav emoji?
- As i`m on a laptop I cant show you, but the crying laughing emoji all the way because it never fails to make an awkward situation better.

So theres a bit of an insight into my life;)
Now its my turn to ask the question...
What would you like to see on my next post?

Thanks for taking time to read my post!
love, Caitlin xx
